WMO TECHNICAL AUTHORITY
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO), provides basic technical support to the peer advisors, Implementing Entities and beneficiary countries on Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) regulations. WMO is responsible for the technical screening of the GBON National Gap Analysis and the GBON National Contribution Plan against the GBON regulations and for the independent verification of the status of SOFF countries’ stations against the GBON regulations. WMO provides basic technical support to the peer advisors, Implementing Entities and beneficiary countries on GBON regulations.
Global Basic Observing Network (GBON)
The Global Basic Observing Network (GBON) is a fundamental element of the WMO Integrated Global Observing System that responds to the geographical inconsistencies in availability of internationally exchanged data, in support of weather forecasts.
Readiness Phase Outputs Screening
WMO is responsible for the technical screening of the GBON National Gap Analysis and the GBON National Contribution Plan against the GBON regulations and for the independent verification of the status of SOFF countries’ stations against the GBON regulations.
GBON Compliance Monitoring
The World Meteorological Congress is responsible for setting, approving and updating the GBON regulations. The Commission for Observation, Infrastructure, and Information Systems (INFCOM) is overseeing and coordinating the development of guidelines, processes and procedures for the implementation and compliance monitoring of GBON.
